How It All BeganPat McLaughlin III and his son, Pat McLaughlin IV, founded Matcha Organics in 2015. Pat IV – who describes himself as the updated 4.0 version of his father – learned about matcha while doing research to find a healthy alternative to coffee.
After conducting extensive research, Pat was blown away by the mental clarity and focus he had after trying matcha. Not one to use the phrase “Miracle Product” lightly, he was shocked by the overwhelming health benefits of the product and how versatile matcha is; it can be used in protein shakes, smoothies, lattes, and even baking! After trying it for himself, Pat was hooked. Now, he drinks matcha daily.
When Pat broached the topic of going into the tea business with his father, Pat III was skeptical. However, not wanting to extinguish a spark of entrepreneurship among any of his children, Pat III listened to his son’s ideas, research and action plan, soon realizing that Pat had done his homework and was onto something. After trying the delicious product and experiencing it himself, he was onboard.
As the successful owner of a computer business, Pat III was hands on with the business end of the company and had concerns whether or not if the sales of matcha green tea could rise to the point of supporting his son and eventually the entire family.
Pat III recognized that the vast majority of people – including himself – had never heard of matcha green tea, and if presented properly, the father-son partners could help hundreds of millions of people who want to live happier, healthier lives.
Due to the wide range of benefits offered by matcha green tea and the untapped market, Pat III closed his computer business and decided to back his son 100%. Since then, the duo have been selling their products in the United States for over 3 years, in Canada for over a year, and they have just started selling in the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, and Spain.
